Pakistan can fetch USD 8.4 billion from gaming industry: Fawad

Islamabad July 29 2021: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Thursday said that Pakistan can easily fetch USD 8.4 billion, a fair share from gaming and animation industries as the industry alone would surpassed USD 300 billion target by the end of year 2021.

Speaking at signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, he said the gaming industry is the market of USD 550 billion and by the end of 2021, the animation industry alone will have surpassed the 300 billion target and Pakistan can easily get the fair share of USD 8.4 billion from these industries.

The animation industry in Pakistan is growing 20 times per annum, he said, adding the growth of companies in the animation and gaming sector is encouraging.

He said, Bournemouth University and its National Center for Computer, Animation Technology, Media and Journalism is a globally recognized and highly reputed institution. He said the ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with Bournemouth University, is taking steps to promote gaming and animation among Pakistani youth. The partnership with Bournemouth University will provide an opportunity to Pakistani youth to develop their talents, the minister added.

He further said, the partnership with Bournemouth University will provide an opportunity for Pakistani youth to develop their talents. Minster said that some 64 percent of Pakistan’s population is under 25 years of age and 40 percent of the population is under 20 years of age. Pakistani youth can take advantage of opportunities in this field. Scholarship programs are being launched for Masters and PhD degrees, he added.

The media industry dominates all other industries in the country. There are currently more than 200 TV channels operating in Pakistan while the number of digital channels are increasing on a daily basis, the minister said.

He said, there are many opportunities in the field of film and drama in the country and the government is taking steps to promote the film industry.

He said, the collaboration of Bournemouth University will open new avenues for development in this area.

Speaking on the occasion Bournemouth University Vice Chancellor said Bournemouth University is jubilant to partner with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and looking forward to working with Pakistan in this area.

The MoU was signed by National Media University Focal Person, Ms Samina Farzin.

Bournemouth University Vice Chancellor Professor John Vinney; Chief Operating Officer Jim Andrews; head of department NCCA Dr Richards; Senior Lecturer of FMC Dr Rehan Zia, Head of National Marketing and Student Recruitment Andrew Bird, International Partnership Development Manager Dr Alastair Morrison attended the ceremony via video link.
