Geneva January 9 2023: Pakistan has received support of USD 8.57 billion from international bodies in first plenary session held at Geneva claims Information and broadcasting Minister.
“Int’l community and development partners are demonstrating exemplary compassion for flood victims. Islamic development bank group has pledged $4.2 billion at Geneva moot, WB vice President for South Asia Martin Raiser announced $2 billion, responding to PM’s call for concrete action” says Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Marium Aurangzeb.
“The first plenary of day-long Geneva conference culminated in generous outpouring of int’l community, EU pledged $93 million, Germany $88 million, China $100 million, IDB $4.2 Billion, WB $2 billion, Japan $77 million, ADB $1.5 billion” she added.
She further added, “USAID $100 million, France $345 million, total $8.57 billion, in line with collaborative vision of coalition of willing.”
The second plenary session will commence shortly.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris was ready to support Pakistan in its talks with financial institutions, as the country faces huge losses from recent floods.
The floods, blamed on climate change, dealt a severe blow to Pakistan’s strained economy while displacing some 8 million people and killing at least 1,700. Rebuilding efforts are now estimated to cost more than $16 billion.
