Oman Government Releases 38 Pakistani Prisoners

Karachi August 6 2021: His Majesty the Sultan of Oman granted special amnesty to 38 Pakistani prisoners on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Adha.

These prisoners have been granted pardon on their remaining sentences as well as their payable fines to the Government. These prisoners exhibited good conduct while serving their sentence. The Embassy is undertaking the deportation procedures of these Pakistanis for their travel back to Pakistan. During this week, 19 of these released prisoners have travelled back to Pakistan on different flights arranged by the Embassy, says a press release received here today from Oman.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Oman, H.E. K. K. Ahsan Wagan has said that the pardon of 38 prisoners on compassionate grounds by the host Government is a great friendly gesture by the brotherly country of Oman. The Government of Pakistan expresses its gratitude to His Majesty, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for granting Royal pardon to Pakistani prisoners, he added. The Ambassador further said that these prisoners will reach Pakistan in the coming days as soon as the arrangements of their travel are finalized.

In addition to the 38 pardoned prisoners, Pakistan Embassy is also undertaking the legal requirements for the deportation of 54 Pakistanis who entered Oman illegally or were over-stayers. These people were detained by the immigration authorities for further investigation and eventual deportation. Informing about the details of the deportation procedures, the Ambassador said that the Embassy will ascertain the national status of these illegal immigrant and issues them Emergency Travel Documents which is valid for their one-time travel to Pakistan. The Embassy frequently makes travel arrangements for the illegal immigrants who are detained by the Omani authorities.
