Karachi March 21 2023: Lucky Core Industries Limited (Formerly ICI Pakistan Limited) announce the successful commissioning and commencement of operations of 60,000 tons per annum (TPA) expansion project at its Soda Ash manufacturing facility in Khewra.

This expansion is part of the 135,000 TPA expansion project (phase 2) of which 75,000 TPA expansion was completed in 2022. The total installed capacity of the Soda Ash Plant of the Company now stands at 560,000 TPA.

“Currently, Lucky Core Industries is not only the leading supplier of soda ash and sodium bicarbonate in Pakistan, but also an exporter of these products to markets such as UAE, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bangladesh, Tanzania, and Afghanistan. Through endeavours to establish itself as a producer of high quality products, Lucky Core Industries is the preferred supplier of various leading glass and detergent industries in the South Asia region” says Company Chairman Muhammad Sohail Tabba.

Soda Ash production increased by 9.1 percent in Pakistan to 420,072 tons in first seven months (from July 2022 to January 2023) of this fiscal year compared with 385,035 tons during the same period last year.

Soda Ash is used as a builder or filler in the formulation of soaps, detergents, and other cleaning compounds. In the glass industry it is used to bring down the melting temperature of silica sand (the main raw material of glass). In the paper industry, soda ash is used in the preparation of the sodium sulphite buffer liquid used in the pulp manufacturing process. Soda ash even finds an application in the water treatment segment, by adjusting the pH of water when it is acidic.

Lucky Core Industries Limited is a publicly listed company incorporated in Pakistan. The Company is engaged in five diverse businesses: Polyester, Soda Ash, Chemicals & Agri Sciences, Pharmaceuticals and Animal Health. Through these businesses, the Company manufactures and trades in a wide range of products including polyester staple fibre (PSF), soda ash, general and specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, animal health products and agricultural products (including chemicals, field crop seeds, vegetable seeds and more).
