Faisalabad June 19 2023: Always marching forward, Interloop Limited has now received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for setting its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. These targets are based on the latest climate science and cover the full set of its emissions: Scope 1, 2 and 3.

This milestone is a major move for Interloop on its mission to lighten its environmental impact as the company moves toward decarbonisation. Interloop Limited is the first large-scale enterprise and textile manufacturing company in Pakistan to have approved Science Based Targets. The company’s target statement is as follows:

“Interloop Limited commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 51% by FY2032 from a FY2022 base year.* Interloop Limited also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 30% within the same timeframe”

In October 2020, Interloop took ambitious steps to align its practices with science-based targets. By submitting these targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an independent organisation promoting emission reduction best practices in line with climate science, Interloop has successfully had its near-term emissions reduction targets assessed, verified, and approved.

“We have significantly ramped up our investment in clean energy and continuous process improvement to reach our targets,” says Navid Fazil, Chief Executive Officer at Interloop. “With rigorous emissions tracking and transparent reporting, we are determined to confront challenges head-on and make substantial progress along the way.”

Moving forward, Interloop will continue to collaborate with stakeholders, partners and customers to accelerate our shared sustainability journey and contribute to a greener future.

Fauz Ul Azeem, Sustainability & Chemical Management Lead, emphasized, “Our priority is to deliver on the commitments we have made. We are working with our value chain partners to decarbonise our industry while ensuring long-term business resilience.”

About Interloop Limited: Interloop Limited is a leading textile manufacturing company in Pakistan producing hosiery, denim, knitted apparel, and seamless activewear. With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility, Interloop Limited has established itself as a trusted partner for global brands and retailers. The company is committed to reducing its environmental impact and contributing to the well-being of communities.

About Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). SBTi provides a framework for companies to set science-based targets that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement, enabling them to take meaningful action against climate change.
