Pakistan New Budget Will Tax Cars on Prices

Islamabad August 12 2024: Sales of Cars, LCVs, Vans, and Jeeps totaled 8,589 units in July 2024, reflecting a 35 percent decrease compared to June 2024, according to data published today by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA). However, when compared to the same month last year, sales surged by 69 percent.

Pak Suzuki’s sales increased by 73 percent YoY to 3,894 units in July, though they declined by 41 percent month-over-month (MoM). The Suzuki Swift saw the highest YoY growth, with sales up by 102 percent to 502 units. The Suzuki Alto also posted a strong performance, with a 99 percent YoY increase in sales to 2,869 units. Additionally, the Suzuki Bolan’s sales rose by 97 percent YoY to 288 units, compared to 146 units in July 2023.

On the other hand, sales of the Suzuki Cultus and Wagon-R declined by 46 percent and 43 percent YoY, respectively, with 96 and 139 units sold.

Honda Atlas Cars experienced a threefold YoY increase in sales to 790 units, although this represents a 20 percent decline compared to the previous month. PAMA reports Honda’s sales as a combined figure for the Civic and City models.

Indus Motor’s sales increased by 4 percent YoY to 1,106 units, which includes the combined sales of the Corolla, Yaris, and Corolla Cross models.

In contrast, Hyundai Nishat Motor’s sales dropped by 61 percent YoY to 67 units in July 2024, compared to 170 units in July 2023.
