Islamabad May 15 2025: Pakistan is estimated to end this kharif season with a urea inventory of 900 thousand tonnes, as per report released by National Fertilizer Development Centre.
Urea availability is estimated at 4,012 thousand tonnes with domestic production of 3,192 thousand tonnes and 820 thousand tonnes of carryover stock. Urea demand during Kharif 2025 is projected around 3,152 thousand tonnes, showing sufficient stock (> 300 thousand tonnes) throughout Kharif season.
Similarly, expected availability of DAP during Kharif 2025 is around 840 thousand tonnes, comprising 187 thousand tonnes opening stock, 212 thousand tonnes of confirmed import and 441 thousand tonnes domestic production. DAP demand is estimated around 796 thousand tonnes. Timely import arrangement by private sector and smooth gas supplies to the only local DAP manufacturing plant will strengthen the national inventory and ensure ample availability during current Kharif.
Urea offtake was 251 thousand tonnes which decreased by 23.5 per cent while DAP offtake was 95 thousand tonnes which increased by 2.6 per cent over April 2024, as per latest data released by National Fertilizer Development Centre.
Total nutrient offtake during April 2025 was 222 thousand tonnes, which decreased by 8.8 per cent over April 2024. Nitrogen offtake decreased by 14.6 per cent while phosphate and potash offtake increased by 10.1 and 30.9 per cent, respectively.
Total domestic fertilizer production during April 2025 was 784 thousand tonnes. Urea and DAP production was 570 and 72 thousand tonnes, respectively. Production of other products i.e. NP, CAN, SSP, NPKs and SOP was 65, 62, 6.6, 5.3 and 3.6 thousand tonnes, respectively. Total imported supplies were 40 thousand tonnes comprising 39 thousand tonnes of DAP and one thousand tonne of SOP.
Prices of nitrogenous fertilizer products decreased slightly while that of phosphate increased during the month under review compared with March 2025. Price of urea (sona) and urea (other) and CAN decreased by 0.5, 0.3 and 1 per cent, respectively while prices of DAP, NP and SSP increased by 1.9, 0.6 and 1.6 per cent, respectively. The average price of urea (sona), urea (other) and DAP was PKR 4,499, PKR 4,371 and PKR 12,363 per 50 kg bag, respectively.
