Islamabad June 6 2022: The secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that 900,000 voters could not be verified during the review of the electoral rolls, due to which their polling stations have been fixed at the permanent address on the identity card.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Secretary Election Commission Omar Hameed Khan said that the Election Act 2017 was enacted on October 2 this year, according to section 27 of which the voter can only be registered at the permanent or temporary address on the voter’s identity card.
However, under this process, voters who had registered to vote at a third address were given legal protection on December 31, 2017. Under this decision, the Election Commission launched a campaign in 2019 to review the electoral rolls. Moved from third address to temporary or permanent address.
He said that the periodic review process was started from October 8, 2021 while the door-to-door verification process was completed from November 7 to December 21, 2021, in which 121.1 million voters were present.
For the convenience of the people, the Election Commission had made the SMS 8300 service absolutely free from November 26 to December 31, 2021 so that they could know their names in as many lists as possible.
He said that during the door-to-door verification, about 98.4 million voters were confirmed at their permanent and temporary addresses, during which 4 million deaths were confirmed, while 159 voters could not be verified during the process.
The Secretary Election Commission said that during the first phase, the Election Commission had started door-to-door verification from March 4 to 18 to ensure the presence of unverified voters in their constituencies.
