England and Pakistan's head-to-head record: Familiar foes face off in T20 World Cup Final

Melbourne November 12 2022: Few teams are more familiar with each other than ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Final opponents Pakistan and England.

The nations faced off in a seven-match T20I series in Pakistan during the build-up to the tournament, and then played each other in Brisbane in the warm-up fixture just prior to the start of their campaigns.

Fourteen meetings in a little over two years means there will be few secrets between the two teams as they gear up for Sunday’s showpiece at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Head-to-head in England’s favour

England won both the seven-match T20I series in Pakistan and the three-match series in England in the summer of 2021, while there was a 1-1 draw between the two in 2020.

In both of those victories the respective series went down to the final match however, leaving the aggregate score as 7-5 in England’s favour since August, 2020 with one no-result and that unofficial fixture in Brisbane.

Pakistan’s recent pedigree

A 4-3 series win for England concluded in early October and offers some useful indicators for Sunday’s Final.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were in fine form throughout the series, producing one particularly notable partnership when they chased down 200 without losing a wicket.

There was no Shaheen Shah Afridi in the series for Pakistan however, and England will be wary of the difference the left-armer can make.

Mohammad Haris, Pakistan’s rising star at number three, also didn’t feature in the series.

England’s performance in Pakistan

England’s Harry Brook enjoyed a superb series in the middle order and will take confidence from those displays after a stuttering T20 World Cup.

Moeen Ali captained the side throughout the series in Pakistan and contributed well with both bat and ball, and will be hoping to make a similar impact – albeit in a slightly different role – in Sunday’s Final.

England will have quite a different look from the team that won in Pakistan, however. Captain Jos Buttler didn’t feature, and neither did all-rounders Liam Livingstone and Ben Stokes.

And the bowling attack was without Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes in Pakistan, both of whom could feature in the Final.
