Inflation in Pakistan is Now Lower Than US

Islamabad March 4 2025: Pakistan CPI inflation General, decreased to 1.5 percent on year-on-year basis in February 2025 as compared to 2.4 percent in the previous month and 23.1 percent in February 2024, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Whereas the rate of inflation is 3.0 percent for the month of January 2025 in US which is higher than inflation in Pakistan for the same month, according to US Bureau of Statistics. However, interest rates in Pakistan are still in double digits compared to 4.33 Fund rate in US.

In food items, the prices of Onions (56.59 percent), Tomatoes (48.42 percent), Wheat (36.13 percent), Wheat Flour (34.70 percent), Fresh Vegetables (27.04 percent), Pulse Mash (12.19 percent), Wheat Products (12.12 percent), Pulse Masoor (11.22 percent), Tea (10.20 percent), Eggs (9.36 percent), Rice (5.19 percent), Bakery & Confectionary (0.28 percent) and Chicken (0.14 percent) witnessed decrease during the month on year on year basis.

In non food items, Electricity Charges (16.58 percent), Motor Fuel (5.09 percent), Liquified Hydrocarbons (2.76 percent) and Communication Apparatus (1.19 percent) were down compared to last year.

On month-on-month basis, it decreased by 0.8 percent in February 2025 as compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in the previous month and no change in February 2024.

CPI inflation Urban, decreased to 1.8 percent on year-on-year basis in February 2025 as compared to 2.7 percent in the previous month and 24.9 percent in February 2024. On month-on-month basis, it decreased by 0.7 percent in February 2025 as compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in the previous and corresponding month of last year i.e. February 2024

CPI inflation Rural, decreased to 1.1 percent on year-on-year basis in February 2025 as compared to 1.9 percent in the previous month and 20.5 percent in February 2024. On month-on-month basis, it decreased by 1.1 percent in February 2025 as compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.3 percent in February 2024.
