Islamabad August 30 2024: The Joint Venture in the Sinjhoro Block, comprising Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) as the operator with a 76% working interest, Orient Petroleum (19%), and GHPL (5%), has made a significant gas condensate discovery at the Baloch-2 well.

This discovery is located within the exploratory zone of the Sembar Formation in the Baluch Development and Production Lease (D&PL) area, under the Sinjhoro Exploration License, in District Sanghar, Sindh Province.

The Baloch-2 well was spudded on February 24, 2024, and drilled to a total depth of 3,920 meters in the Sembar Formation. This was an exploratory effort by OGDCL, conducted with in-house evaluation and technical support from its Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Based on wireline logs interpretation, Drill Stem Test-3 in the Sembar Formation has yielded 6.8 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 388 barrels of condensate per day (BCPD), with a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2,180 pounds per square inch (psi) through a 32/64” choke size.

This discovery will help to save foreign exchange income of USD 20 million for each single year the well remain in production.

This discovery represents a significant milestone for the Sinjhoro Block and highlights the potential of the Sembar Formation, known for its rich source potential. The Sembar Formation is extensively distributed across the Middle and Lower Indus Basin of Pakistan. This discovery not only confirms the untapped potential of the Sembar Formation but also introduces a new play, setting the stage for further exploration and the development of hydrocarbon reserves in the Block. In addition to appraising and developing Baloch-2, OGDCL is actively planning to re-enter existing shut-in wells and swiftly develop the full potential of the Sembar Formation.
