Pakistan Drastically Raises Fines for Violating Traffic Rules at Motorways and Highways

Islamabad September 19 2023: Pakistan’s National Highway and Motorway policy has increased fines upto 10 times for traffic rule violations by motorcars, Jeeps and Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to prioritize road safety.

These changes are set to take effect from October 1, 2023.

  1. Exceeding speed limits will result in a fine of PKR 2,500, up from the previous PKR 750.
  2. Overtaking where prohibited will incur a fine of PKR 3,000, previously PKR 300.
  3. Failure to yield the right of way to another vehicle will be fined at PKR 1,000, previously PKR 300.
  4. Interfering with an emergency vehicle will result in a fine of PKR 5,000, up from PKR 500.
  5. Driving without proper lights will be fined at PKR 5,000, compared to PKR 1,000.
  6. Driving on the wrong side of the road will be fined at PKR 2,500, up from PKR 500.
  7. Disobeying a stop signal will be charged PKR 3,000, compared to PKR 500.
  8. Following too closely or cutting too sharply will result in a fine of PKR 1,000, up from PKR 300.
  9. Driving with a covered rear screen will incur a fine of PKR 750.
  10. Failure to observe lighting hours will result in a doubled fine of PKR 1,000.
  11. Jumping a traffic queue will also double the fine to PKR 1,000.
  12. Use of turn indicators for any purpose other than prescribed will be fined at PKR 750, up from PKR 300.
  13. Obstructing traffic will result in a quadrupled fine of PKR 2,000.
  14. Fines for observing a slow sign have increased tenfold to PKR 2,000.
  15. The fine for prohibited lane changing has increased fivefold to PKR 1,000.
  16. Careless driving will incur a fivefold higher fine of PKR 1,500.
  17. Driving without a license will result in a fine of PKR 5,000, compared to the previous PKR 750.
  18. Driving an unregistered vehicle will result in a fourfold increased fine of PKR 2,000.
  19. Opening doors dangerously will incur a fivefold higher fine of PKR 1,000.
  20. Improper turns and improper lane usage will be fined at PKR 2,500 and PKR 1,000, respectively.
  21. Vehicles emitting smoke, visible particles, grit, sparks, ashes, or oily substances will be fined PKR 1,250.
  22. Unpleasant sounds from vehicles will incur a fine of PKR 1,000.
  23. Improper vehicle usage will be fined at PKR 1,000.
  24. Parking on a bridge will result in a fine of PKR 350.
  25. Using a mobile phone while driving will incur a fine of PKR 500.
  26. Driving without a seat belt will result in a fine of PKR 1,500.
  27. Operating a vehicle without side mirrors will incur a fine of PKR 500.
  28. Installation of police lights or mimic law enforcement agency equipment will result in a fine of PKR 5,000.
  29. Using a fancy number plate will incur a fine of PKR 1,000.
  30. The use of high-density lights will result in a fine of PKR 2,000.
  31. Tinted windows will incur a fine of PKR 1,000.
