Pakistan Inflation Inches to 7.2% In October On Wheat Prices Rebound

Islamabad November 1 2024: Pakistan Consumer Price Index increased by 7.2% on year-on-year basis in October 2024 as compared to 6.9% in the previous month and 26.8% in October 2023 due to rebound in wheat prices, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Wheat prices increased by 5.96% during the month.

On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.2% in October 2024 as compared to a decrease of 0.5% in the previous month and an increase of 1.0% in October 2023.

Prices of Fresh Vegetables (12.90%), Onions (7.64%), Wheat (5.96%), Pulse Gram (5.73%), Fish (5.54%), Condiments and Spices (5.50%), Chicken (4.61%), Tomatoes (3.96%), Wheat Flour (3.52%), Dessert Preparation (2.76%), Besan (2.41%), Gur (2.35%), Gram Whole (2.35%), Pulse Moong (2.33%), Sweetmeat (2.20%), Mustard Oil (1.41%), Dry Fruits (1.23%), Bakery and Confectionary (1.06%) and Potatoes (0.86%) increased during the month.

While prices of Sugar(4.55%), Pulse Mash (2.46%), Eggs (1.03%), Pulse Masoor (0.58%), Fresh Fruits (0.44%) and Rice (0.27%) declined during the month of October.

In non-food items, Prices of Water Supply (8.65%), Electricity Charges (5.02%), Household Textiles (3.91%), Household Equipments (2.59%), Mechanical Services (2.06%), Furniture and Furnishing (2.01%), Postal Services (1.72%) and Hospitals Services (1.58%) witnessed uptick in October.

CPI inflation Urban, remained stable at 9.3% on year-on-year basis in October 2024 as compared to the previous month and increase of 25.5% in October 2023. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.1% in October 2024 as compared to a decrease of 0.5% in the previous month and an increase of 1.1% in October 2023.

CPI inflation Rural, increased by 4.2% on year-on-year basis in October 2024 as compared to 3.6% in the previous month and 28.7% in October 2023. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.5% in October 2024 as compared to a decrease of 0.5% in the previous month and an increase of 0.9% in October 2023.

SPI inflation on YoY increased by 9.7% in October 2024 as compared to 9.2% a month earlier and 34.2% in October 2023. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.6% in October 2024 as compared to a increase of 0.2% a month earlier and an increase of 0.2% in October 2023.

WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 3.9% in October 2024 as compared to 1.9% a month earlier and an increase of 24.6% in October 2023. On MoM basis, it shows no change in October 2024 as compared to a decrease of 1.1% in the previous month and a decrease of 1.9% in corresponding month of last year i.e. October 2023.
