Pakistan second largest province decides to close markets early to tackle power outages

Karachi June 17 2022: The prevalent power outages, load shedding of the electricity and in order to reduce the shortfall between supply and demand of the electricity, there is an urgent need to take the effective measures for the conservation of energy in Pakistan’s Sindh Province through a two-pronged balanced approach i.e., to utilize the day light hours for business activities: and to minimize the possible adverse impact on the business activities..

Earlier, the decision taken by the Federal Cabinet on 7th June 2022 to take effective measures to reduce the load shedding hours through conservation of the energy; and to prevent and minimize the impacts of anticipated energy shortfall in Pakistan through implementation of a National Strategy for tackling the Energy Crisis, it is necessary and expedient to enforce certain restrictions in order to control increasing shortfall. between the energy generation and its utilization, so that this prevalent emergency of the energy shortfall may be controlled, which otherwise could have long term and multi-sectoral impacts on lives of the general public of the Sindh province.

In view of above mentioned facts, apprehended danger of the energy shortfall in the country and in the larger interest of the general public to ensure their safety, to prevent nuisance and in order to avert the adverse impacts stated supra, in exercise of the powers conferred under constitution with the approval of Chairman, Sindh Provincial Commission, following specific restrictions are hereby imposed within the territorial limits of the Sindh Province with immediate effect.

All the Markets, Bazars, Shops and Shopping Malls shall be closed by 9:00 PM (Except Medical Stores, Pharmacies, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps, CNG Stations, Bakeries and Milk Shops).

All the Marriage Halls, Banquets and Marriage Functions shall be closed by 10;30 PM and all the Hotels, Restaurants, Coffee Shops and Cafes shall be closed by 11:00 PM.

The order will remain in force with immediate effect on 17-06-2022 (5:00 PM) and shall remain in force till 16-07-2022 (1 Month).
