Pakistan Urea Offtakes Decline 14% on Prolonged Monsoon And Lower Commodity Prices

Islamabad September 18 2024: Pakistan Urea and DAP offtake was 559 and 89 thousand tonnes during August 2024 which decreased by 14 and 66 per cent, respectively over August 2023 due to prolong spell of monsoon/ subsequent rainfall and low commodity prices.

Total nutrient offtake during August 2024 was 346 thousand tonnes, which decreased by 44.6 per cent over August 2023. Nitrogen, phosphate and potash offtake decreased by 32.1, 72.7 and 60.5 per cent, respectively. Decrease in offtake is mainly due to prolong spell of monsoon/ subsequent rainfall and low commodity prices.

Total domestic fertilizer production during August 2024 was 813 thousand tonnes. Urea and DAP production was 572 and 76 thousand tonnes, respectively. Production of other products i.e., NP, CAN, SSP, NPKs and SOP was 79, 74, 6.5, 2.3 and 2.1 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Total imported supplies were 148 thousand tonnes comprising 142, 3.9, 1.6 and 0.7 thousand tonnes of DAP, MOP, SOP and AS, respectively.

Price of urea (sona) and urea (other) decreased slightly by 0.6 and 0.8 per cent, respectively. Prices of phosphate fertilizer products i.e., SSP, DAP and NP increased by 4.9, 3.9 and 2.2 per cent, respectively. The average price of urea (sona), urea (other) and DAP was PKR 4,742, PKR 4,602 and PKR 11,798 per 50 kg bag, respectively
