Pakistan’s Kitchen Item Prices Drop 1.2% This Ramadan Versus Last Year

Islamabad March 23 2025: Pakistan’s household item prices, as measured by the SPI for the week ending March 20, 2025, declined by 0.35 percent, according to data published by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

During the holy month of Ramadan, prices have effectively decreased by 1.20 percent compared to the same period last year.

Significant price reductions were observed in Tomatoes (7.08 percent), Onions (6.07 percent), Garlic (5.59 percent), Eggs (4.64 percent), Potatoes (2.50 percent), Pulse Gram (1.60 percent), Tea Lipton (1.30 percent), Sugar (0.87 percent), and Firewood (0.60 percent).

Conversely, notable price increases were recorded for Lawn Printed (2.90 percent), LPG (1.53 percent), Bananas (1.45 percent), Long Cloth (1.23 percent), Bread (0.55 percent), Cigarettes (0.27 percent), Beef (0.25 percent), Curd (0.24 percent), and Salt Powder (0.03 percent).

During the week, out of 51 items, prices increased for 11 items (21.57 percent), decreased for 18 items (35.29 percent), and remained unchanged for 22 items (43.14 percent).

On a year-over-year basis, prices declined by 1.20 percent, with notable reductions in Onions (67.67 percent), Wheat Flour (35.58 percent), Tomatoes (29.45 percent), Chilies Powder (20.00 percent), Electricity Charges for Q1 (18.92 percent), Tea Lipton (16.98 percent), Pulse Mash (13.96 percent), Pulse Masoor (11.69 percent), Rice Basmati Broken (9.81 percent), Diesel (9.37 percent), Petrol (8.55 percent), and LPG (5.30 percent).

Meanwhile, significant price increases were observed for Ladies Sandals (75.09 percent), Pulse Moong (26.96 percent), Powdered Milk (25.75 percent), Beef (21.01 percent), Sugar (18.65 percent), Chicken (18.23 percent), Pulse Gram (17.83 percent), Vegetable Ghee (16.13 percent), Bananas (15.73 percent), Lawn Printed (12.28 percent), Shirting (12.20 percent), and Georgette (11.20 percent).
