Islamabad March 5 2025: “I want to thank, especially, the Pakistani government for helping arrest this monster,” says US president.
President Donald Trump said the planner of an attack in Afghanistan that killed 13 American soldiers has been captured and is on the way to the US to face justice.
Trump made the announcement in his speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night. He didn’t say who the suspect was, but the White House later issued a social media post identifying him as Muhammed Sharifullah, who was said to be an Islamic State terrorist. Trump offered no other details except to thank Pakistan for the arrest.
The suicide bombing killed 13 US service-members at Abbey Gate, an entryway to the Kabul airport, during the height of the chaos of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. The blast also wounded 18 U.S. service members and killed dozens of Afghans seeking to flee. Officials said it was carried out by ISIS-K, an Afghan offshoot of the terror organization.
